So without wasting time Let's start with our today's blog.
The story start way before Mahabharata
When we say Goa we fill so excited about it many people, college students have dreams to spend vacations i goa. It is the most favorite place for local people and also for tourist. Goa is a state located at the southwestern part of India within the region known as Konkan.
“Goa” is ancient, it is this much older that, we hear stories from the Mahabharata period. The original name of Goa was “Gomantak” which means- fertile land or land similar to Paradise; good waters. The folktale says that: the origin of Goa lies when Parshurama the sixth incarnation of Vishnu ordered the sea god Varuna to recede the sea to the point his axe struck after he flung it.
Lord Varuna then gave up this piece of land till the banks of river Mandavi and river Zuari. This piece of land came to be known as Konkan of which Goa is the Southernmost part.
The discovery of rock art engravings on rocks from Usgalimal on the banks of kushavati River, has shed light on the prehistory of Goa (i.e. time period between the stone tools and the invention of writing systems)
Goa is Really famous for its beaches, Church and Goan festival and also for Christmas because along with Konkani there are many Christian people who stay there.
Even before any king rules the territory, aligarchic democracy in the form of Gavkari existed in Goa. Gavkari System's main idea was the village land must belong to the village god or goddess.
Goa was a part of the Mauryan Empire of Emperor Ashoka. Goa was ruled by several Hindu dynasties for approx 700 years. Goa had many Govem, Gomanchala, Govapuri, Gomantak, Gopakapuri etc.
The Vijaynagar Empire held sway over this land. Govapuri was at its zenith during kadambas.
And every dynasty has left their mark in the form of temples, architectures, caves, arts. Culture and traditions of the ruling dynasties heavily influenced Goan tradition.
