We all grow old, no matter who you are or what you do, nobody can turn back the clock, the years fly past, it feels like only yesterday I was going to school and was happy and without responsibility, today, I am part of the rat race, looking to get ahead, stay competitive and take care and achieve financial security for myself and my family.
It is interesting to note that when we think of the ageing process, we focus only on what can be seen on the outside, the fact is that we also age mentally which is not easy to understand and the ability to adjust to the changing social behaviour of society.
Let us take a closer look at how ageing changes our daily life depending upon the individual viewpoint, there are some things that we know are common to all.
A) Our physical appearance changes considerably as we grow older, there is no doubt that leading a healthy lifestyle which includes eating healthy food, exercising regularly and getting enough number of hours of sleep daily can help you to remain in shape but this does not remove the signs of aging such as grey hair, feeling tired and finding it difficult to exercise regularly which never happened earlier.
B) As we get older our mental abilities are affected, without our knowledge, we gradually begin to forget things and find it difficult to recall things, this can become a problem because it becomes inconvenient to keep a record of everything that you need to do on a daily basis.
C) One of the biggest problems with ageing is changing with the times, anyone who has interacted with the elderly will tell you that it can be frustrating to have a conversation with them because they have fixed views of life and are not willing to listen and understand the viewpoints of the present generation.
D) Ageing makes one rigid and most old people will tell you that the present generation is useless, they cannot work, the movies and music of the past is much better than what we have today and as a result there is a clash of ideas and no matter what you say, the older generation will tell you that they were the best.
E) Technology is another problem that comes as we age, the old generation have lived their lives without dependence on computers and mobile devices, they get angry when they see these electronic devices and fell us, earlier it was easier to get work done, ironically the computer was invented to make it easier to get things done.
F) Despite the fact that we cannot prevent ageing, there are some people who cannot accept it and will undergo plastic surgery, use anti ageing creams and other methods to look young, the truth is no matter what you do, you will continue to grow old and trying to regain your outward appearance does not change the reality.
In the end, ageing is something that we must accept as a part of life, it makes us independent, mature and learn from the mistakes of the past, it is said that as you grow older, you get wiser.
