There are 195 countries in the world and each country has its own capital city. Capital city means it is a city where region's government is located. So today we going to see a country which does not have only one capital city like other countries but have 3 capital cities. This is interesting right one country and three capital cities. Yes there is a country like this. We can talking about South Africa. South Africa is the only country which has three capital cities. So lets see which are those three capital cities of South Africa.

1. Cape Town

Cape Town is a port city of South Africa. It is the second most popular city of South Africa. The city is known for its harbour , and for its setting of Cape floristic region. It has a population of around 4.4 lakhs people. Cape town has been transformed into a safe place for tourists to explore. In 2014 Cape town was named as the best city in the world to visit by both The New York Times as well as Daily Telegraph 

2. Pretoria 

Pretoria is the second capital of the South Africa.  This city is named after the Voortrekker leader Andries Pretorius and sometimes South African people also called it as Jacaranda City.  The reason behind calling it as Jacaranda city is in South Africa there are thousands of Jacaranda trees planted. Pretoria City was founded in 1855 by Voortrekker leader Marthinus Pretorius the son of Andries Pretorius.

3. Bloemfontein

The 3rd capital of South Africa we are going to see is Bloemfontein which is also known as Bloem. It is also the judicial capital of the nation and also the seventh largest city in South Africa. Bloemfontein is popularly and poetically known as “The City Of Roses”  for its abundance flowers and the annual rose festival held here. The population of Bloemfontein is around 5.5 lakhs. 

Why South Africa Has three Capitals?

South Africa  does not have a single capital instead of that it has 3 capitals as we have already seen which are those three capitals lets see why the country South Africa has three capitals. It is one of the few countries in the world that has divided its governmental powers among three different state. The reason country has three capitals is in part the result of its political and cultural struggles.
