This blog will highlight key points addressed by his excellency Shri Narendra Modi Ji at 76th UNGA 2021 chaired by honourable Mr Abdulla Shahid.
UNGA - United Nations General Assembly
PM Modi addressed the following key points during his 20 minutes speech where he delivered for the 4th time during his 7 years tenure as Prime Minister of the Republic of India:
PM Modi started by giving condolence to the families of the people who lost their loved ones during the pandemic. Then he went ahead and reassured UNGA about India's sincerity towards helping nations in need.
He also mentioned that India has developed the world's first DNA-based vaccine which can be administered to anyone above the age group of 12.
PM Modi called India as “Mother of Democracy” and also shared what can happen in a democratic country by his own personal story. He told about his gradual rise from a tea seller to heading the nation and addressing the UNGA for the 4th time. In a typical Modi fashion, he gave a tagline of “Democracy can deliver and democracy has delivered”.
PM also quoted the philosophy of Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay that calls for Integral Humanism which in simple terms can be expanded into doing something worthwhile and moving in the chronological order of individual to society to the nation to the entire humanity.
Referring to the above philosophy he also said that India is working towards Integrated Equitable Development ( lovingly and mockingly known in India as “sab ka Saath, sab ka vikaas”).
PM Modi put forth a fact, every 6th person around the world is Indian. By this fact, he linked something that is undeniable “When India grows the world grows, when India reforms the world transforms”.
India is important because after years of struggle India has maintained a balance between Ecology and Economy. India is also spearheading the fight against climate change and is racing towards the target of 450 Gigawatts of renewable energy.
When PM spoke about regressive thinking and using terrorism as a tool he was referring to Pakistan. When PM spoke about extremism he was referring to China.
When PM said that Oceans are our common heritage and we should “use Ocean resources and not abuse” he was referring to the maritime security pact of QUAD member nations and also about the growing tension with China.
PM also mentioned the charges that the UN is facing and what were the events that brought forward the biased nature of the UN. He mentioned the following times when the sanctity of the UN was brought under question :
He urged the UN to rise above petty geopolitics and regain its hard-earned trust by being non-biased and being effective and reliable.
He quoted Acharya Chanakya when he mentioned the fact, “When right work is not done at the right time, then time itself ends the success of that work”.
When coming to the conclusion of his speech he urged nations to take science-based rational and progressive decisions for the betterment of humanity. He also called for unified efforts of nations to make humanity healthy, secure, and prosperous.
PM also quoted Rabindranath Tagore, mentioning, “ Boldly move forward on your auspicious path of action, may all weaknesses and doubts vanish.”
