Our eating habits are responsible for our health and wealth both. Nowadays cholesterol has become a very common issue that a large number of people are facing day by day. Cholesterol is basically a waxy substance found in the blood which is needed by the body for the formation of cells. But due to its increased amount in the blood, a person can badly suffer from the risk of heart diseases.

There are two type of cholesterol found in our body that is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. Bad eating habits can result in the increased bad cholesterol in our body. Increase in in bad cholesterol can slow down or even stop the blood circulation in our body which leads to conditions like heart stroke or heart attack.

The least you can do to control formation of bad cholesterol in your body is to include some healthy things in your diet. So here are 8 foods that help in reducing cholesterol in your body for a healthy living :

  1. Whole grains - Whole grains help in lowering the risk of heart disease by providing soluble fibre which binds cholesterol and its precursors in the digestive system and bring them out of the body before they get into the blood circulation system.
  2. Beans : Beans are also rich in soluble fibres. Beans take time to digest in the body that means you will feel full for a longer time after having a meal.
  3. Nuts : having nuts is very good for heart as it lowers down LDL.
  4. Soy : soybeans and food made from it it like tofu, soya milk, etc. Is a very powerful ingredient to lower down the cholesterol in the body.
  5. Low calorie vegetables : like okra and eggplant which are high in soluble fibres.
  6. Vegetable oils : like sunflower, safflower, canola etc. helps in lowering down LDL in the body.
  7. Fruits like strawberries grapes apples and citrus : These fruits are rich sources of pectin which is a type of soluble fibre and brings down LDL.
  8. Fatty fish : fatty fish provides omega-3 fats which reduces triglycerides in the blood. It also protect our heart by preventing abnormal heart rhythms. So fatty acid reduces LDL in the body and lower down the cholesterol in the same way.
