This year's IPL auction was full of surprises. Some got more than what they were expecting for and some were sold at base price. This auction was all about Chris Morris show.Morris, who came with a base price of Rs 75 lakh, generated bids from four teams.Royals eventually sealed it with a record bid which made Chris Morris the costliest buy at the auction ever surpassing Yuvraj Singh, who was sold at Rs 16 crore to Delhi Capitals in 2015.In 70 IPL games, Morris has scored 551 runs at 23.95 and taken 80 wickets at 23.98.
After Morris, Maxwell also got the attention of the teams seeing his Domestic and International form of the current year. He was bought at 14.25 crore by RCB. Another impressive bid was made by RCB on the Kiwis new all-rounder Kyle Jamieson. Starting from the base price of 75 Lakhs,he was sold at whopping amount of Rs 15 crore making him the 2nd costliest player of this auction. Other than Maxwell one more Aussie named Jhye Richardson was sold at hefty amount of 14 crore to Punjab Kings hoping he will plug the gap in their leaking bowling department. He was also the leading wicket taker in BBL this season. The teams invested a lot in order to fulfill there team requirement and even the Indian domestic players got huge amount such as Krishnappa Gowtham(CSK), Shahrukh Khan(PK),etc. It will be interesting to see how they will balance the team with their presence and have a impact on the upcoming season.
However, the costliest player in the IPL remains Virat Kohli, retained for Rs 17 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
There were few upsets in the auction as well as some of them were not even sold such as Jason Roy,Alex Hales,Aaron Finch,Evin Lewis, etc.
Some were sold at base price such as Jimmy Neesham at 50L, Ben Cuttings at 75L.
The defending champions did not purchased many as they don't believe in so many changes. RCB seems the most destructive and complete team on the paper after the inclusion of Maxwell, Jamieson, Christian, etc.
After the end of the 20th Match on Sunday, CSK tops the list followed by DC and RCB while KKR is at the bottom after 4 continous losses.
Hope we will witness ups and downs in the tables till the playoffs
