What is voice? What is it significance in our day to day life? Let's read. We all have one, whether we know it or not. It’s more than what’s heard with our ears or read with our eyes (i.e., writer’s voice), but the sound released from our lives. I don’t know if you heard it as often as I did growing up, but the phrase, “Actions speak louder than words”—a common response to “but I didn’t say anything” after rolling eyes at parents... that or “don’t look at me in that tone of voice”, did you get that one too? Just me? Cool.—implies that our voice that speaks to others is not limited to what comes out of our mouths. ‘Body language’ communicates the same.

Such common terms and phrases and yet it’s only been in the last recent years that I’ve stepped into the truth that I have a voice. Deeper than body language and those close being able to read my eyes. A voice to speak into situations and atmospheres. An authority carried. A life that communicates.

My voice sounds like hope and belief. It sounds like joy. My writing voice sounds like friendship and coffee dates at a table called Hope where the goodness of God is put on display. A table I pray all know they’re invited, where many may find a safe place and all they need is served in and on repaired pottery—the testimonies of restored hearts, minds, bodies, lives.

While this new found revelation of having and using my voice is still a work in progress, the invitation came to me like a post-it inside another invitation to identity in the Lord where He’s revealed and healed over and over and sent others with the same post-it as a reminder:

“He’s given you a voice.

Your life has a sound.”

So I accept the invitation and give the Lord my ‘Yes’, to continue practicing and sharing my voice, to continue leaning in to Father’s heart and tuning into the sound my life releases by Holy Spirit within me.
