Consumers have six rights under the Consumer Protection Act. The Consumer Protection councils established under the Act are tasked with promoting and protecting different kinds of consumers rights. There are six important rights, which are discussed below:
RIGHT TO SAFETY: The consumer has a right to be protected against goods and services that are dangerous to their life or health. For example , electrical appliances which are made with poor materials or do not meet safety standards may cause serious injury. As. a result people are being educated need on using ISI based electrical equipment, as this ensures that the product satisfy quality standards.
RIGHT TO BE INFORMED: The consumers has a right to get complete information about the product he plans to purchase including its ingredients, date of manufacturing, price, quantity, and usage instructions among other things.
RIGHT TO CHOOSE:The consumers have a options of selecting from a wide range of products at competitive pricing . This means that the marketers should offer a wide range of products in terms of quality, brand, prices, size and other factors and allow consumers to choose from amongst them.
RIGHT TO BE HEARD: In the event of dissatisfaction with a goods/product or a service the consumer has a right to make a complaint and be heard. As aresults, many forward thinking businesses have established their own customer service and complaints departments or many grievance cells. Many consumer organisations are also working towards this direction , assisting consumers in resolving their complaints and helping consumers.
RIGHT TO SEEK REDRESSAL: the consumer has a right to get relief in case the product or service falls short of his expectations. The Consumer Protection Act provides a number of reliefs to the consumers including replacement of the product removal of defect in the product, compensation paid for any loss or injury suffered by the consumer.
RIGHT TO CONSUMER EDUCATION: The consumer have the right to gain knowledge and to be well informed throughout their lives. He/she should be aware about his rights and remedies in a event that a product or service fails to meet their expectations. Many organisations for consumers and some corporations or businesses are actively taking part in consumer education in this regard.
These all are the important rights of a customer under the Act.
