Vellam the essential drink - much appreciated movie by Malayalam industry.

Prajesh sen directed Vellam is a biography inspired from real life of Murali kunnumpurath. Murali was a drunkard who makes up with alcohol and end his day with alcohol. He become burden to his parents and his wife and children and his wife and children also started believing that there is no point in living with him.

Unfortunate things happened in a family function where his relatives treated him like a thief which makes him so guilty. He even went to jail which made him realise that he need a rehabilitation and turns his life upside down.

The film shows that there is a thin line between social drinkers and alcohol addicts and it clearly shows the impacts in an alcoholic life addicts life.

I can assure you that this is Actor Jayasuriya's one-man show. Even though there are other lead roles like samyuktha Menon as his wife and siddique as a doctor.

Jayasuriya hold the whole movie in his shoulder till the end.

His behaviour and facial expressions says it all. Being a drunkard he doesn't have any eye contact with his family in a sign of guilty. His crushed shirts and opened buttons added perfection to the character and we can easily relate him to any drunkard we came across in our life.

Samyuktha Menon did her part well in the movie. In first half she convey her feelings with any facial expressions and in second half through sensible dialogues. Siddique did a quite good job a rehab councillor (Doctor).

The film also have some lag issues as usual in some of Malayalam films. However Jayasuriya's performance keep us in the grip. Climax gives positive note to whole movie revealed the company name and fixes the date for his relative marriage.

Over the period of time Malayalam movies gained most of the credits for its simplicity in story telling and movie making. The way they the capture the livelihood and lifestyle of the people. When you closely take a look at each and every Malayalam films they’ll show close up shots at some instances. 

Particularly while showing their food culture they use slow motions or closeup shots so that the audience can view what exactly it is and how important is food in their culture. 

Movies like ustad hotel  have some cool shots of pouring sulaimani in glass , cooking briyani, and slow motion shots of fish fry. 

Also they show different exotic location in each and every movies which shows their passion towards their culture , land and their tradition.

I wish Malayalam film industry to produce much more movies that shows great talented actors like Fahad fasil, Jayasuriya and many more. This one man show Vellam the essential drink is a simple description of a drunkard who fights for regaining his family and self respect which he lost because of his drinking habbit.

Overall a very good opening for Malayalam cinema in theatres after the lockdown and must watch film for movie lovers irrespective of language.
