Confused about what course to opt for further studies after the 12th? Don't worry, most of the students go through this phase. It is normal, but you still need to think sedately. Usually, students choose a course based on the stream they had opted for in schools. But all don't need to go for a course only based on your stream. Today, I will talk about issues students face while making decisions. I will also share some key points that can help students with these issues.
Let's start with one of the most common issues students face while making a decision, and that is that there are too many options available. Nowadays, students have so many options that they get confused about what could be an appropriate one for them. Instead of fussing over it, calm your mind and think of where your interest lies. Also, knowing your field/subject of expertise will help you sort out 2-3 options from a big list of courses. You can either choose one course only to apply for, or you can even apply for more than one to be on a safer side. Students also get confused with so much advice offered to them. Bits of advice can be helpful, but relying your decision completely on it is not a good thing. You should apply your mind also. Listen to the advice of all, but consider only a few because sometimes too much information can also mislead you. Another important thing is that often students don't research properly about the courses. I will explain this with an example. Most of you must have heard about Eng Hons. So, I have heard from a few students who take up this course thinking it will be a course about the English language, grammar and all. But it is not so. Eng Hons is majorly about the literature of English in various parts of the world. Students are taught numerous literary works about the same. Along with that, your written and spoken English gets automatically improved, but it is not something that is taught. So, it is really important to check out all the information related to your chosen course. You can take help from someone senior from you pursuing that course, or on the internet. Doing research work can help you a lot. And remember that researching about college or university is equally important. If you are still confused about what to pursue, you can even take the help of Career Counsellors. They can guide you to choose a course through counseling. One more issue that students still face is parental support. Often, parents pressurize their children to take up the course of their choice. If your child takes up a course without his interest in it, he/she won't be able to study properly. This can spoil their career, and they can even fall into depression. Parents' support is a must in these decisions. Parents have the right to state their opinion, but they should not pressurize children for the same.
To conclude, know your interests and subjects of expertise to finalize a course. You can even apply for more than one course. Don't completely follow the advice given by others. Think properly, and then decide. Don't make hasty decisions even if you are pressured.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
