Gokulashtami : How to worship?
Gokulashtami falls on Rohini Nakshatra day in Avani month. Gokulashtami is celebrated on the day Ashtami falls on midnight, as Lord Krishna was born at midnight on Ashtami Tithi. πβ¨ If Rohini Nakshatra and Ashtami come together it will bring double happiness. ππ

On Gokulashtami day, from the door of the house to the puja room, it means that baby Krishna comes into the house to dissolve rice flour in water and paint the leg of the little child with that flour. π£π‘
Special pujas are performed in the temple on Gokulashtami day. π As Krishna is said to have been born at midnight, special pujas are held at 12 midnight. β°
It is best to wear a tulsi garland while offering flower garlands to Krishna on that day. πΈπΏ
Philosophy of the festival ποΈ
The philosophy of this festival is to worship Bhagavan, who is the total form of knowledge, wisdom, integrity and practical wisdom, and follow the Gita revealed by Him. π§ π
On Gokulashtami day, let us also welcome the baby Krishna, known by various names as Kannan, Mukundan, Gopala Krishnan, Nanda Gopala, in our homes and get prosperity in life! π§βπΌπΊπ
What to do? π
πΎ In the morning on Krishna Jayanthi, one should feed the cow, the aspect of Lakshmi. The puja room should be decorated with a picture or idol of Kannan, lit on both sides and puja items such as coconut, betel nut, flower and fruit should be placed in the middle. πΆ Children should be decorated as Kannan and Radha.
π₯ As a child Krishna enjoyed stealing butter and eating it. Therefore, a mixture of his favorite milk, curd, butter, aval, papaya, guava, banana, and fruits like butter and sugar should be created in a modern way. π¬ You should also prepare jaggery, salted rice, murukku, laddu, Mysore baku, dhengukal, manogaram, aktuupal, burpee etc. and give them to the children.
π Sriman Bhagavatam, Krishnashtakam, Krishna stories should be read from that morning. One should pray the Duvadasa mantra 'Om Namo Bhagavathe Vasudevaya' 108 times and sprinkle flowers on his image. πΈ Dhoopa Deepam (Patti, Camphor Aarti) should be shown. π In the Bhagavata, one should read the tenth chapter called Dasama Skandham, which describes the birth of Kannan, and the rest of the family should listen. Thus the blessings of Lord Krishna will be available to our home and soul.
π‘ Krishna Jayanti Puja is performed in villages only in the evening. After performing puja and Naivetyam at home, it is special to go to the nearby Kannan temple to worship the Lord and enjoy watching the Uriadi and climbing the bald tree performed there. πΆ The dance-singing Kolata shows, watching the children dance will remind you of the never-ending play of Kannan dancing with joy to every gopi.
How to fast? π΄
1. Fasting without food:
π On Krishna Jayanti, they fast from the morning without taking any kind of food or water. At exactly 12 o'clock on the day of Ashtami Tithi, they complete their fast after making special pooja and offerings to Krishna.
π During this fast, Bhagavad Gita, bhajans, songs and kirtans about Krishna are played and the entire fast is absorbed in Krishna.
2. Fasting with liquid diet:
πΌ If those who are forced to go to work want to fast, they can fast by taking liquid food like water, fruit, fruit juice, milk without taking any solid food in the morning.
π« Salty foods, water sources and grains should not be taken during this fast.
