5 Things That I Learned When I Landed In A New City

How do you feel when you think about moving to a new city? Moving near your dreams is the first step towards independence for anyone who has just finished school/college.

But this independence comes with its own sets of responsibilities. Apart from being more responsible, it also teaches one to be more alert and attentive. Sorting daily life problems all by yourself is not an easy task. But, the opportunity of moving away from your comfortable nest and landing in a haphazard world brings its own set of joy and adventure.

Here are the top 5 things that I learned when I landed in a new city.

I went to Kolkata right after school to complete my graduation. I got admission to one of the best colleges there. I instantly fell in love with the vibe of the city.

Kolkata taught me several things but, the ones which I can never forget are:

1.Confidence

Confidence is the one thing that enhances one's personality. A confident person can attract everyone, by the way, he presents himself/herself in front of others.

Solving all my problems by myself gave me enough confidence to handle any situation in my life and fight for the right without expecting any help from others.

2. Socializing

College events gave me enough options to talk to new people, go to new places and enjoy every bit of it. I even learned Bengali, although I am not an expert who can speak it fluently. These interactions with people from different cultures and languages helped me widen my horizon and try new things.

3. Cooking

Food is one thing without which I get grumpy. If I am starving and not getting food, I get upset and angry.

Although we had a maid who used to come and cook for us twice a day, it sometimes happened that she could not come. Then I used to cook for myself.

I gradually improved my cooking skills and, now I can cook a decent meal.

4. Overcoming fears

When I was in school, I feared talking to any stranger. It also included the people with who I had not interacted much. I was nervous on the first day of college also. I even shed a few tears on the thought of living alone in a place I have never been to before.

But most of the time Kolkata was kind to me and taught me to overcome all my fears and problems.

Have you ever felt stuck in a city and wanted to leave? But you decided to hang on and figure out the things for yourself.

5. Enjoying your own company

At times you don't feel like going out and meeting people. It's a lazy day and, you don't want to move out of your comfy pajamas. It's okay to feel like this at times and to enjoy your own little space.

Try to spend some time with yourself. You will end up falling in love with you again.

The Final Words

Each phase of our lives teaches us something new. These phases are crucial for the overall development of any person. But the excitement, the adrenaline rush of moving to your dream city, and experiencing life over there is something which each of us should encounter.

EXPERIENCES MATTERS
