5 Books/book Series You Must Read If You Like Fantasy

5. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

If you liked reading Game of Thrones, you are bound to love this masterpiece. Samantha Shannon has done a more than splendid job when it came to world-building for the book. Wizards, monsters, a daunting prophecy that threatens to destroy their world, and a big bad dragon who lives up to his reputation. Do I need to say more?

It's a book with various LGBT elements, that only make it better. If you're looking for bad-ass female protagonists who slay dragons and save the world, this book will not disappoint you. It has a very interesting plot, and unlike many books, a more than decent ending.

Goodreads - 4.2/5

4. The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini

The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini is easily one of the best fantasy book series I've got my hands on. Fantasy does not get any better than this. Featuring humans fighting humans, dragons fighting humans and dragons fighting dragons, this series has it all.

Christopher Paolini has done an amazing job explaining the magic mechanics of the world and the way magic works. Dragons are also described beautifully, not to mention the initial descriptions of the “villain” in the book, who might as well have been immortal. This book also deals with complex philosophical problems like war, peace and the price to be paid for salvation.

Goodreads - 4.5

3. The Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks

This is not your average fantasy book series. This highly engaging fantasy series will keep you awake at nights as you struggle to stop yourself from turning another page.

With realistic character depths, that will inevitably make you adore the characters as you gradually learn more about them, and plot twists that will leave you speechless, this series is a roller-coaster ride from the beginning to the end.

Goodreads - 4.6/5

2. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Those who are already familiar with the works of Brandon Sanderson already know that he is the god of fantasy books. The Mistborn trilogy is just another masterpiece which will leave you satisfied and devastated at the same time. This is a series that quite literally could embody ‘good’ and ‘evil’ as the main protagonist and antagonist. I could go on and on about the plot details, characters and fights portrayed in the series, but the bottom line is that, if you are a true fantasy seeker, you've just stumbled upon a gold mine.

Goodreads - 4.5/5

1. The Broken Empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence

The Broken Empire trilogy, according to me, is the best fantasy series that one could get their hands on. What makes this series unique and deserving of the first spot, is its unique writing style, dark humor throughout the book, and my personal favorite - An immoral protagonist(Jorg) who will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.

I highly recommend this series to people who like anti-heroes and needless blood-shedding. This book will help you embrace your inner demons, as you slowly start loving a mass murderer who is prone to getting what he always wants.

Goodreads - 4.4/5
