“Marte hai aarzoo mein marne ki,Maut aati hai par nahi aati”by Mirza Ghalib ,is somewhere relatable to Euthanasia.
Death is an unevitable part of life making it the ultimate truth whether we accept or deny it. Everyone always prays to god to bless with a long life ,to protect them;but somepoint in individual's life comes a time when he crave a meciful death a painless one at that so that he can be free of earthly sufferings not because of depression, anxiety but just because of health condition that make life insufferable.Certain conditions which makes one dependent on another persons for small things like even scratching their nose.
It's called mercy killing or in simpler words say painless death. It is something that everyone desire ,as we age we always grow aware of the fact that we are nearing death and we desire that we depart this world in a healthy condition,in a condition in which one is still able to walk, eat and carry out their daily routines and errands. The very thought of being bed ridden and ill on deathbed is a scary scenario.Visions of being bed ridden, suffering and being in incurable pain causing trouble to the person taking care of them and also their relatives ;where they become totally dependent on others ;there is no hope of recovery kills people inside and they desire of an easy death and euthanasia seems to be helpful for them.
Euthanasia has always been a controversial topic from early centuries;some people find it advantageous some not.As it has not been legalized in various countries too, like In India Euthanasia is a crime, according to section 309 of IPC it is condemned as crime. But in various country it is legal too;like in certain developed countries such as Netherlands ,law allows the life of a person to be taken “upon his/her explicit request”.In United kingdom it has been legalized to withdraw medical tretment and life support if patient is desires the same.
The Euthanasia issue involves two aspects;one is passive and other is active euthanasia.Passive Euthanasia deals with the right to refuse medical treatment which prolongs the person life technologically but there is no surity of recovery or reassurance of normal activity ;it leads to meaningless medication which doesn't lead to beneficial for any person.
Whereas In Active Euthansia ,comes up with ethical dilemmas which involve refual of medication but a decision to end's one life in the situation of illness from longer period .But here also the doctors can't do it willingly until patients have desire of and permit them to do the same .It leads to legalised death other than ethical dilemma.
Many people doesn't favour this act as they have a belief that god has given a gift of life which can be only taken by them and no human being has the right to take it away from themselves. At various places it has also been seen that many people force the patients to terminate their life and doctors do it for money which is legally a crime. The only prime decision should be taken is of Patients whether they want Euthanaisa or not.
