The Story Of A Holy Heist

A few days ago I had an inexplicable dream that helped me to write this story about love, sacrifice, and generosity. Welcome to the world of a forgotten era.

The large palace of Jamindar Bari was decorated with flowers and lights. The Jamindar had five sons and only one daughter. That was the day of his daughter's marriage. Although the Jamindari declined, the landlord still held sway over the area. The Jamindar, named Hridaynath Roy, was standing in front of the Durga dalan (corridor  reserved to worship the Goddess Durga). He was overlooking the arrangements.

In the mean time, Binoy Das was walking through the forests; he had to reach the Jamindar Bari before it was too late. The forests were immersed in darkness. Many thoughts ran through Binoy's head. He was a bright boy in the school. But his destiny leads him to the road of uncertainty. Binoy was greatly influenced by the great revolutionary, Master Da, Surya Sen. Binoy once had a chance to meet Mr. Sen in person. That one meeting changed Binoy forever. He formed a secret society and developed a group of about twenty young, brave men for an armed revolution.

The British police were in search of Binoy and his gang. Spies of British police got the news of the prospective heist at the Jamindar Bari.

A few associates of Binoy were keeping eyes on the every movement of the landlord's house for more than two weeks. It is believed that on the day of marriage, the landlord's daughter will adorn herself with heavy jewellery. The revolutionaries wanted to loot the jewellery.

Binoy and his associates are educated, young, and sincere patriots. They target the British Treasury and native landlords for raising funds. In their eyes, Jamindar, Hridoynath Roy was a British stooge.

The Jamindar also had his spies; he also had advance news of the heist. The landlord knew both the revolutionaries and British spies were keeping a close eye on his palace.

The time for the marriage was fixed at 8.30 PM. Binoy and his associates had already reached the spot. They were hiding themselves with the guests. British troops surrounded the palace. The stage was set for a clash.

Binoy was hiding behind the large columns of the palace. One hand came from behind, and the man handed over a letter to Binoy. A startled Binoy opened the letter; the letter is from Jamindar, Hridaynath Roy. It read, "Please regard me as your friend and guardian. You have your way of serving the motherland; I had mine. I love my subjects. I work with the foreigners for the wellbeing of my subjects. The British police had laid siege to this palace. I am waiting for you in room number four on the first floor. I am reiterating I am your friend and guardian".

Binoy was surely not convinced. Although he decided to meet the landlord. He slowly entered the room, holding a rifle in his hand.

Mr. Roy was standing at one corner of the room. He said, “Please relax; I am not your enemy. British police already surrounded the palace. I can save you and your men. The envelope laying on the table held five thousand rupees in it. Please take it and went to the room behind the Durga Dalan. The room leads to a secret tunnel. The tunnel will take you to the forests a kilometre away. Hurry up; we have very limited time.”.

Binoy and his men crossed through the tunnel with the help of a faint light of a candle. When they came out of the tunnel, a full moon was waiting above the forests for them. Binoy bows his head once in respect of the landlord and then fled into the forests.
