Being hurt or injured can be a very emotional time in one's life. The uncertainty that accompanies a painful event often leaves you wondering if the pain will ever end. Have you been there yet?

Surely we have heard the saying: “Time heals all wounds. While the intentions of the speaker are often good, it is not always easy to grasp the idea that healing can take place. Often, the pain of this moment weighs so heavily on us that we cannot see past pain.

Over time, some emotional wounds will heal. But sometimes they don't.

An injured person can experience a range of emotions. Depending on the circumstances, one may feel angry or frustrated, and sadness or depression may also be present. The time it takes to heal depends on the complexity of an individual's experience and circumstances as well as the presence of effective coping mechanisms.

It's okay to feel hurt. It's not even okay to feel angry. However, learning to deal with the pain of a painful experience is crucial in restoring balance to your life. Understanding how to identify your feelings and deal with the situation will help you begin to heal.

Balance, what is it?
Getting injured seems to mess things up. It can make you feel like the world is moving in a rapid blur as you freeze in disbelief. It's not uncommon for a traumatized person to say, "I just want to feel normal again. In fact, this is a very common reaction. Although being hurt can make you feel alone, you are not alone.

Emotional responses to trauma are often complex and, like peeling onions, they may need to be treated layer by layer. Even if the wound is just healing and feels unbearable, there are ways to start finding balance again.

Identifying the Source of Vulnerability
For some people, the source of feeling vulnerable is obvious. However, others may have experienced one or more things in their lives that left them hurt and hurt. Whether it was a cheating spouse, the loss of a loved one, or some other traumatic event, the pain is very real. Take time to reflect on events in your life that have caused you to feel hurt. Identifying the source of your pain will help you begin your healing journey.

The Effect of Time on Healing
When you are in the middle of a painful event and asked to "give it time" or "time will be better" can be stressful for your already hurt feelings. For some people, healing happens in stages. Some of these steps take longer than others. One of the most frustrating things for people who are hurt is when others insinuate that we are all becoming a cookie cutter healer. We do not. Everyone reacts differently to pain and grief. It is important that you respond. Unresolved pain can lead to later difficulties and may get worse over time.
