HERBAL MEDICINE. 

In an densely populated country like India , allopathic medicine also known as western medicine has a shoulder to shoulder competitor which is known as herbal medicine. 
Herbal medicine consists of different branches of Indian Medicine like UNANI,   AYURVEDA , YOGA , SIDDHA & NATUROPATHY. 

Lets dive into one of the branches of herbal medicine which is UNANI. 
UNANI MEDICINE was originated in Greece hence it can also be known as Greek medicine. 

UNANI deals with humors of human body which are BLOOD , PHLEGM ,YELLOW BILE & BLACK BILE. Any irregularities or cachexia in any humor leads to disease. Each human body has its own temperament and due to this  medicines based on UNANI principles also has it’s own temperament. 
There are various treatments in UNANI SYSTEM OF MEDICINE like 

1. Massage.
2. Leech therapy.  (useful for gangrene)
3. Cupping.
4. Regimental therapy.
5. Dietotherapy.
6. Pharmacotherapy.
7. Venesection.
8. DIURESIS.
9. CAUTERIZATION.

DRUGS USED IN UNANI MEDICINE:  
There are three types of sources in UNANI MEDICINE from which drugs are obtained.

1. PLANTS.
2. ANIMALS.
3. MINERALS.    
    
   Majority of Medicines are plant derived and each drug whether it is in it’s simple or compound form has its own temperament 
   Temperament is based on four levels :
   1) Medicines belongs to level 1&2 are normal type drugs which can be used for maximum number of diseases. 
   2) Medicines belongs to level 3 are high level drugs which must be used in low quantity and used for chronic diseases. 
   3) Medicines belongs to level 4 are intense drugs which are only used in psychological diseases. 
     
   DOSAGE OF UNANI MEDICINE :
   Dosage in/of UNANI is also based on temperament of its medicine :  
   1) Level 1&2 medicines are given in high dose such as 5 - 10 gm.     
   2) Level 3 medicines are given in low dose such as 2 - 5 gm.
   3) Level 4 medicines are given in lowest dose such as 0.5 - 1gm. 
      
   SIDE EFFECTS OF UNANI MEDICINE  :
   There are no side effects in UNANI  Here’s why , because medicines of all four levels has antidote property in it which nullifies its side effects. 
    
   UNANI MEDICINE & ALLOPATHIC MEDICINE : 
   There isn’t difference between UNANI & ALLOPATHIC MEDICINE.  Both are unique and effective in its ways. Both the systems have one motto to work for better HUMAN HEALTH.
