Allergy is when your immune system identifies some common symptoms like pollen, pet dander or certain foods - as a threat. In response, it launches an attack by releasing chemicals such as histamine which cause the symptoms most people associate with allergies.

The substances that trigger allergic reactions are called allergens. Some of the most common allergens include:
- Pollen (from trees, grasses and weeds)
- Dust Mites

Step by step process of how it works with allergy:

- Exposure: when you come in contact with allergens-may be by breathing, eating or just touching it.

- Sensitization: The body labels allergens as harmful and creates special proteins called IGe antibodies to fight it.

- Reaction: Next occurrence of the same allergen signals your IGe antibodies to make immune cells release histamine and other chemicals.

- Symptoms: The chemicals cause inflammation and irritation, which we call allergic symptoms-sneezing, itching, swelling, or difficulty in breathing.

This whole process takes place in minutes to hours of exposure, all depending on the person and the allergen included in it.
