TEEJ festival is usually celebrated in SAAVN month as a welcome of monsoon season which is celebrated primarily by girls and women.
So, SAAVN month is going on that's why I am sharing this blog on TEEJ festival with its picture as how girls get ready in punjabi attire, the folk dance and folk songs, gathering of girls and women for dancing on punjabi folk songs and lots of enjoyment and persiflage.
This festival or mela celebrates the bounty of nature, arrival of clouds and rain, greenery and birds with social activity, rituals and customs. In my village from last three years this festival is celebrated full splurge.
From the day SAAVN month started, people starts decorating the whole place where this festival will be taken place. With Colorful Duppattas, Swings, Flowers and lighting everything seems so beautiful and colorful. This festival will continue till last day of Saavn. Food items like Pakodas, Namkeen, Candies, Sweets, Cold Drinks are distributed to everyone. In Punjabi, we usually call this festival “TEEYAN” as it is dedicated to onset of monsoon. Girls play on swings that are set up under trees or open courtyard.
This is how ladies came out from their busy schedules and spend some time together. This festival brings all people together to celebrate joy, happiness and excitement. Colorful bangles are distributed to every girl, heena or mehndi is put on everyone's hand considered as shagun for girls and women.
Time has changed now. I was wondering that earlier women were not allowed to go outside and participate in different activities. But now they have freedom and stand for themselves so that they can equally participate and take part in outside activities as the same way they carry out household chores.
These festivals are the sign of bringing love, peace, joy and togetherness among all the religions. As when we celebrate we don't know to which religion the person next to us belongs. These festivals are proof that if all people are together how harmonious it would be while celebrating together.
“The greatness of cultures can be found in its festivals”. So don't miss a chance to take part in festivals. Celebrate and spread love and harmony among all.
