The Great Indian Kitchen' - My View Point. The Great Indian Kitchen movie directed by Jeo Baby released via Nee Stream ( OTT platform) was one of the most talked movie during the Covid times.This content will feature my view point of the movie rather than the review.Hence further reading is not recommended to those who haven't watched the film yet - Spoiler alert.                           Story line:-The film revolves around a newly married wife(nimisha sajayan) living in his husband's house along with husband(Suraj venjaramoodu), husband's father(T.Suresh Babu)& mother(Ajitha V.M).The house is an old fashioned one where the upper caste people of Kerala used to live . Father is a retired judge and son is a teacher in the subject Sociology. Everything seems to be alright in the house . But the focus was mainly in the Kitchen where nimisha and husband's mother where working continuously.Then shows the  actress struggling  in the Kitchen alone and at a  point she understands that she doesn't belong here and gets out of the house and started following her passion.                                         Director brilliance:- This film wasn't  suppression of director's ideas and thoughts to the audience.The main tool directors use for this is BackGround Music (BGM). This film's BGM is the sound of plates and leaking tap. Director could have made the film more appealing by making the father character more aggressive. But he remains subtle despite his negative shade in the movie. In fact he is second most subtle psycho I have seen in the Malayalam movies after C.K Raghavan (in munnariyippu).The director gives the scenes to the audience and it's the audience who forms the conclusion and decides who is the negative and who is the positive character.The reason why director opts for this strategy might be to feel the movie close to the viewer's real life and thereby bring change to the society rather than giving them a cinematic experience.                                         Scenes means: Mother running behind the father during the initial scenes of the movie itself hints where the movie is heading.She was panicking and obeying them like a slave,infact she was a slave.The home transforms in to a  prison where nimisha was locked  in the room .Suraj teaches in a girl' school that too dealing with the subject Sociology is a contrast.Just think if the teacher who should teach girls about their right and powers in the society itself is living a male dominated life suppressing his wife in the kitchen alone. Later in the movie  shows father  praising the house wives saying that they are above every other job and are the reason for building child's future. Was that a complement or a clear indication of where the women should belong and should not go beyond. This movie was categorised as a drama genre but I see the survival thriller content of it.The Survival of a woman from  captivation to freedom.
