Pets especially foreign breeds are gaining popularity in indian households as more and more people are buying, adoptiong or rescuing animals. Dogs especially are the most popular in the pet category. The increasing popularity poses a threat to the health of the pet as they are hardwired for cold climate. People back their claims saying they get adapted to the heat but the truth of the matter is these have evolved for the bitter cold and thousands of years of evolution cannot be overcome within a lifetime. These breeds need very special care in order for them to live a healthy and happy life. But for the most part it is better to adopt pets that are suited to the climate of the place that they live in. Furries deserve the best life that can be provided to them. India has no shortage of street dogs which are perfectly suitable for adoption. The breed ( Indian Pariah) is an excellent breed which can sustain harsh weather conditions and also are very smart and loving also immune to many diseases. Moreover adoptions are generally free and save the lives of countless homeless animals. Many of which may even be put down otherwise. The growing trend of pets being a symbol of “social status” should be suppressed and should only be done for the love of animals. Animals should be treated with love and care, proper and informed decisions should always be made in their regard.
