hey everyone, today i am going to share some of my thought about korean relationships.
“annyongasaeyo, bangapsmidha.” is called “hello, nice to meet you.”
korean language is divided into two parts formal and informal.
formal has four different variants and informal has four different variants. and koreans know each and every variant , they speak depending on persons rank, age, profession.
so this is not a difficult thing , but the real difficulty is what we call our relatives. at first it was so confusing for me to learn it took a lot of time to get used.
i am going to share some words:
omma , appa are mother and father in a informal way. ommoni, aabhuji are mother and father in a formal way.
hyung is elder brother which a little brother calls, oppa is elder brother which a little sister calls. it differs on gender.
unni is elder sister which a little sister calls, noona is elder sister which little brother calls. it also differs on gender.
little sister is called chin dongsaeng, little brother is called nam dongsaeng. but gender tags are only used if you want mention particularly if not you just say dongsaeng.
so here comes the real one we usually call parents of mother and father differently like dhadha and dhadhi, nana and nani. but koreans call both of them halmoni(grandma) and harabeoji(grandpa). this is a confusing thing to understand. even now i get confused in this things.
here comes the most interesting thing, what you call your boyfriend if he is older than you? its normal even if they are older we call them by their name, but koreans women call their boyfriend oppa, if the guy is younger than girl then he calls her noona. you know oppa and noona are used to call own brothers and sisters. but how can you call your boyfriend oppa?
even koreans them self gets confused, if the girlfriend calls another guy oppa the boyfriend gets jealous and fights with her. then if she replies telling that the guy is her own brother then boyfriend regrets for fighting. i get frustrated if that was the case. how can it be? you call your brother oppa and boyfriend oppa and even husband oppa, does it sound good?
But when girlfriends (only korean girls) who calls their boyfriends oppa sound so cute, they go like “oppa, toekbokki bogolle.” it sounds so cute. so the frustration of getting confused goes away and i immerse in their cute act .
that's it guys, see you in next blog.
