What Actually Migraine Headache Is?

Migraine is a common kind of headache that mostly affects around 15% of people world wide.

Women are more commonly affected than men it can occur at any age that includes children also. But,

WHAT IT IS ACTUALLY?

Migraine causes a pain in the head at one side that may be a throbbing pain or pulsating pain. It may end after 1-2 days or sometimes it might end in few hours. Every episode has its own kind of symptoms. Along with the severe headache, person may also experience nausea and vomiting. During this time they are very sensible to light, smell and noise. They may get better when they rest in dark and quiet place. 

Migraine headache is of many types. Symptoms are very different from person to person. The symptoms changes according to stages. Although not all people experience these stages nor symptoms.

STAGES OF MIGRAINE.

  1. Prodrome
  2. Aura
  3. Headache
  4. Recovery

IN THE STAGE 1, 

Person may experience some of the symptoms like yawning, tiredness, cravings and mood changes. These changes may be experienced a few before headache.

IN THE STAGE 2,

Person may experience “AURAS” that include, Temporary vision(zig zag lines, odd sensations).

This might happen before headache or during the headache.

IN THE SATGE 3,

Stage 2 is followed by the main headache stage, which we all know that during this stage person may feel discomfort, sensitivity to light and smell that may decrease his ability to do his normal activities.

IN THE STAGE 4,

This is the recovery stage and this stage person may experience tiredness and mood changes. Person may often feel discomfort and tired in recovery stage also.

The cause of migraine is still unknown. Genetics might be the reason that migraines can run in the families.

As there are many types of headaches other than migraines it is important to consult a physician and get a diagnosis.

There is no specific test for diagnosis but, the person has to describe about his symptoms and since how long he is suffering from?

HOW TO TREAT MIGRAINE?

  • Person may feel better if he is lying down or sleeping in a dark and quite room.
  • Person can take simple pain killer.
  • If your doctor prescribed you to take medication do not avoid or neglect it.
  • Medications include,
  1. Pain relief 
  2. Triptans (Triptans work on the chemicals of brain)
  3. Anti-sickness (Reliefs from nausea and vomiting)

Sometimes the medication prescribed by the doctor may not work. So, another way to treat migraine is to avoid triggers that bring your headache.

SOME OF THE TRIGGERS THAT BRINGS YOUR MIGRAINE HEADACHE.

  1. Skipping meals.
  2. Stress.
  3. Tiredness.
  4. Lack of sleep.
  5. Exposure to heavy lights and sound.
  6. Hormonal changes.
  7. Climatic changes.
  8. Smell.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES.

  • Living in a peaceful space.
  • Following your daily routine.
  • Avoid trigger that bring on.
  • Yoga and medication helps you to be calm.

AS WE ALL KNOW PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.

DO NOT ENCOURAGE SELF MEDICATION!!
