OpenAI recently made Chat GPT available for general use. It is a very sophisticated AI chatbot that can respond to your questions. I liken it to a highly developed autocomplete system because it accepts input in the form of questions and outputs what it anticipates seeing as answers. It acts in a manner that is comparable to how your phone may anticipate the next word you'll enter.  

In addition to delivering information that is readily available online and seeming credible, Chat GPT is good at summarising. It falls short of offering accurate or logically sound information. It excels at sounding right while actually being incorrect. Here is an example of a discussion I had with Chat GPT after asking it to write a Haiku for me:

This factual inconsistency does not imply that Chat GPT is an ineffective tool; rather, it means that we still need to consider our usage choices carefully. When you have the information and need to make it sound convincing, or when you need guidance on a vast subject, it can be a useful tool. 
For example, Chat GPT really wrote our most recent blog article on effective engineering communication on the direction to “write a blog post on how engineers can communicate effectively.”

In a broad sense, Chat GPT offered counsel that was both helpful and uncannily comparable to the advice I would offer. Because Chat GPT is only as competent at answering a question as the number of comparable questions and answers it has in its database, I think my advice would be better in a specific situation while Chat GPT's would get worse.
We can use Chat GPT in the context of engineering communications to better express our thoughts, provide broad overviews and general ideas, and serve as a brainstorming tool. In order to prevent ourselves from being misled by a false Chat GPT post, we must be extremely cautious when using it as a source for accurate information and hone our own fact-checking abilities. 
Because of Chat GPT and other new AIs, I predict that soon we will live in a society where fact-checking carefully written arguments becomes increasingly important. As a result, clear communication is still crucial, but as engineers we also have a duty to tell the truth when we see false information being spread.
