Let me take you back to the days of Ramayan. After Ram, Sita and lakshman had been sent to exile, for sometime, they stayed here in the beautiful woods, which back then was home to many hermits. There are many places like Ram Ghat, Sita Rasoi, The first cottage made my Lakshman. So When Bharat returned to ayodhya and learned about his father's (King Dasrath) demise and banishment of his elder brother, he decided to bring them back. He then with many other chiefs and realtives reached to Chitrakoot. There he (Bharat) tried to convince Ram to return back to Ayodhya, but Ram was the man of promises and principles, so he refused to go back. Then Bharat request to Ram to give his sandals to him. So that the sandals would be the symbol that Ram is the King and he is only the caretaker in the absence of Ram. By seeing this gesture of Bharat everyone got emotional. There is a place called Bharat Milap, where Bharat met Ram. After this visit of Bharat, Ram decided to leave this place as it could happen again and again.
