Again a New history has been created by one of our youth Indian. This old saying is no more true" Pdhoge likhoge toh bnoge nawab and kheloge kudoge toh banoge kharab". Indians have proved that studying and playing together can be managed simultaneously. India has started rising to its new heights by raising their level in sports activities. Sports ecosystem is slowing but steadily improving.
Shooter Avni lekhara one of the youngest (19)years old player scripted a history on Monday as she became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in Paralympics. She fired her way to the top of the podium in the R-2 women's 10m air Rifle Standing SH1 event here. The 19-yr old girl finished with a world record equalling total of 249.6 which is also a new Paralympic record. Shooting para sports features rifle and pistol events.
In both, competitors aim at a ringed target from a set distance of 10m,25m and 50m. Depending on the event ,athletes are required to shoot from a standing, kneeling or prone position. There are men's ,women's and mixed events. The sport's name was changed from IPC shooting to Shooting Para sports in 2016. The rules regarding the three shooting positions are adjusted for athletes with impairments. Like a wheelchair or shooting chair positions can be used instead of standing. Athletes who use a wheelchair may employ a sling on the non- trigger arm to bring the gun closer to them and improve stability. In the kneeling position ,an athlete shooting from a wheelchair or shooting chair can rest the elbow of their non -trigger arm on stand.
Lekahara got sustained spinal cord injuries in car accident in 2012 which made her wheel bound but on maonday she proved that nothing is impossible in this world if you are dedicated towards something ,if you have will to do anything you can achieve anything. She has an impairment in their legs (like amputations and paraplegia both). As again this proverb come in my mind Winners don't do different things; winners do the things differently."
There are SH1 rifle category ,SH2 rifle etc. In SH1 rifle category shooters are able to hold a gun with arms. Some athletes will compete in a seated-position while others will compete in standing position. Sh2 rifle (unable to hold a gun with arms ,so a stand is used. She's the 4th Indian athlete to win a Paralympics gold after swimmer Murlikant Petkar(1972) ,javelin thrower Devendra jhajharia (2004 and 2016) and high jumper Thangavelu Mariyappan(2016).
