An ant and a grasshopper once coexisted in a green meadow near the river. The ant was working arduously in the sweltering summer months, gathering wheat grains from the farmer's field.
The ant would work diligently from daylight till dusk collecting the bulky grain while carefully balancing it on her back. She would then carefully place the wheat grain in her larder before running out to the field to gather more. She would dash back and forth between the field and her larder, sometimes performing this activity all day long.
The green meadow, on the other hand, had a grasshopper who would spend all of his time singing and dancing. He frequently did mock the ant for working so arduously all day to acquire the grains. He would regularly invite the ant to join him in his current activities, which included singing, dancing, and having fun.
The ant would, however, disregard him and carry on with her work. The grasshopper would laugh even harder and frequently make fun of the ant by saying that they have enough food to survive in the summer.
When the ant heard this, she remarked that she was storing some food for the coming winter and advised the grasshopper to do the same. The grasshopper ignored her advice and carried on with her joyous singing and dancing.
Summer quickly gave way to autumn and then to winter. Due to the snowstorm, it became extremely cold outside. The evenings were lengthy and gloomy, and the sun was seldom visible to them. The grasshopper stopped enjoying singing and having a good time because he was too cold. He lacked a place to find cover from the snow outside and was starving and cold. He pondered how to get out of this difficult circumstance.
He visited the ant for some food and shelter when all of a sudden he thought about her. He set out for her home and knocked on her door to ask for assistance. The grasshopper offered to sing for her when she opened the door in exchange for some food and a place to stay.
The ant responded by saying that the grasshopper had made fun of her earlier when she had worked arduously in the summer to save enough food for the coming winter. She gently urged him to perform somewhere and obtain food and shelter by working. The grasshopper then realised that instead of spending his time being lazy during the summer by singing and dancing around, he should have saved up enough for the winter.
