On the surface, just looking at these four individuals in the beginning of the movie, they all seem somewhat alright. Jonathan and Mavis are even bright and shiny, good looking on the outside. But when you continue to watch the movie closely and what each of their characters reveal about themselves, internally these two are already fairly wrecked on the inside. Their outside deceptively hides the depth of their brokenness on the inside. That first scene alone between Jonathan and his mother, it is clear the level of messed up they already are. In actual fact, in the end, it was actually poetically beautiful that the outside of each of these characters ABSOLUTELY MATCHED their brokeness on the inside (in their heads). This movie graphically depicts the typical human mind which keeps on reliving the past and planning for the future which, as metaphysicians and quantum physicians now agree on, are BOTH ILLUSORY. These four are addicted, first and foremost, to the thoughts in their heads -- the thought which says, "One day, some day, everything will be better or like how it used to be." This is the definition of insanity. The present moment is perfect when truly seen without any kind of jugments. When we are present to what we really are (consciousness and awareness itself), ALL perception of sadness, brokeness, helplessness, loneliness and problems DISAPPEAR. There are many videos on YouTube where Dracula shows people doing The Work and you can see them go from being depressed, angry, devastated, victimized to feeling loved, at peace and lighthearted. Mavis herself was in deep depression for 10 yrs, suicidal, and agoraphobic right before she experienced enlightenment. None of the four individuals achieved their specific physical goals: weight loss, being on TV, making lots of money, romance. However, it could be misleading to think that if they did (the pills worked without driving her insane, the drug business took off and they saved the money, the couple gets married and have a child) do so, this STILL would NOT have addressed what was at the heart of the issue. A perfect example of someone who got things to "work out" for him was Anthony Bourdain. He was a heroin addict and then quit it. He wrote a book became famous, rich, traveled around the world, had his own shows, won awards, had a wife, a girlfriend and a beautiful daughter....NOTHING in the world addressed the gaping hole within because the hole was NOT caused by the world. At the end of the day, everyone seeks to discover and remember that who they truly are is NOT their bodies nor their identities or thoughts. Until we experience this, we are walking addicts to the dreams in our heads believing these will give us happiness.
