Hello friends in my previous blog I talked about advertising and what it means and how it is different from personal selling and marketing. Today we are going to see how advertising is different from sales promotion. Most of you would think that sales promotion and promotion are one thing. But it is not true sales promotion is done to push sales after a period of stagnation. Sales promotion is a short- lived activity both advertising and sales promotion are very different from each other in many terms. On one hand advertising is purely impersonal where as sales promotion is both personal as well as impersonal. Sales promotion is something that bridges the gap between advertising and personal selling. Advertising is a long term phenomena and its result can be seen after a longer period of time but sales promotion which is done to boost sales is a short term activity whose results can be seen immediately. Some examples of advertising can be TV Advertisements. Some examples of sales promotion can be discounts or providing free shipping and samples. Advertising is generally done to create a brand awareness and build a brand image. Advertisement generally focuses on telling about a brand and its qualities and the products it provides. But sales promotion focuses on boosting sales by using some techniques like giving discounts and rebates. Both of these activities are equally important for a company in order to survive in the market. Advertising is an expensive activity whereas sales promotion is a bit economical. Advertisement is best for big and medium companies whereas promotion can be used as a marketing technique by all kinds of organisations weather big or small. Advertising is a one sided process which requires effort of only the company and consumer efforts are generally taken for granted. But in sales promotion the efforts of consumers as well as manufacturers are important to achieve goals hence we can say that sales promotion is a two way process. Both advertising and sales promotion contribute in the growth of an organisation as without advertising no one will know about a brand and without sales promotion no one will buy it we can say that both activities are a bit different from each other but both are complementary to each other.I hope you liked today's blog .
