Hi everyone!! Today I will be talking about a really important societal issue associated with the English Language. So, being an Indian it will not be at all surprising for you , if I tell you how much English is idolized by people around us especially by the people of our parent's generation. If we talk about the corporate world then we can say that yes it is important especially if you work in an MNC or so but let's come to our neighborhood, is it required there too? The answer is a big no but still many people idolize it. Even if you can speak English fluently , just pretend that you can't in front of a person you just met and hardly out of 10 people like this only 2 or 3 will take you seriously rest will instantly tag you as βGawarβ . Now, you don't have to listen to me that seriously and mess up your life I was just sharing something I have seen. This problem is only seen in our South- East Asian countries or in Indian subcontinent most prominently we people don't focus on other person's ideas but just laugh at him for his poor choice of words or his inability to speak a foreign language. This just shows us that we still have a colonial mindset we must get comfortable in our Indian languages and keep them above all foreign languages. It is such a beautiful thing that our constitution recognizes 22 official languages and none of them is our national language , yes English can be a way to connect with each other like most of my school teachers were from places like Kerala and Tamil Nadu so we used to communicate in English with them but over a period of time they started understanding us and we started understanding some words of their language which was a wonderful experience. If you watch interviews of French, German or Russian people on their local YouTube channels you will find that they too can't speak English but unlike us they don't show off by speaking wrong English , they just speak in their language or simply leave the interview, this way they respect both the languages , their mother tongue by not compromising its value and also English by not speaking it incorrectly.
Asking a person educated in their regional language to speak in a language they don't know properly and then criticizing them or making fun of them is as ridiculous as telling a person who knows English to talk in Japanese and if he fails then making fun of him here who is really failing ? you know English but you don't know thousands of other languages?
