The Tanjore city is thought to be named after Rakshas Tanjan, an asur (DEMON) who was annihilated by Bhagwan Vishnu. According to locals, the name "Than-sei-oor" means "an area surrounded by rivers and verdant paddy fields." Tanjore was founded and maintained hundreds of years ago by the Cholda Dynasty by arduous hard labor and pure bhakti love for Bhagwan Shiv. Tanjore is lush green and generously spread, with good water amenities and palm groves as a result. 

Hindu Rajaraja Chola was a supporter of the environment and nature, allowing divine richness to flow through Tanjore and other neighboring cities developed by him and his heirs. There are many places, monuments, and historic enterprises built with Vedic engineering that are regarded strange when viewed through the lens of a vested western perspective. The Bhagwan Shiv Mandir in Thanjavur, also known as the Tanjore Big Temple in English, is one of the most mysterious dharmic structures in the world.

Though the construction is not mysterious to Hindus (local Indians), it is mysterious to westerners due to their myopic and biased judgement of Vedic constructions, which is why they incorrectly connote this huge monument as mysterious and alien. When western scientists and archaeologists were unable to interpret the miraculous constructions of Hindu temples, they conveniently labelled it as extraterrestrial technology to avoid humiliation and rational explanation. The illegal portrayal of Hindu constructions by such ingenious and unsophisticated scientists reveals the devious technique of denying the reality of Vedic gods as supreme creatures and labelling them as lords or common alien beings. yet the same rationale does not apply to humans such as 2000-year-old Jesus or While Vedic constructions displayed the divine technology of Hindus thousands of years ago when these anti-Vedic people were not even in the wombs, illiterate looter Mohammed existed only 1400 years ago!

Underground passages are established for sages, monarchs, and queens who used underground routes to travel between temples. The pathways were extremely beneficial for getting to temples on auspicious days such as Thaipusam, Deepawali, Makar Sankranti, Maha Siva Ratri, and other devout Hindu festivals. Few routes were interconnected to allow for the free flow of fresh air running through lush green foliage rich with oxygen for the healthy breathing of the residents roaming the underground transits of the Thanjavur temple.

There was a separate elevated platform built for Raja Raja Chola so that he could conveniently perform Abhishek of the big shiv ling at Garbhagriha. Other tubes led to tunnel doors, which were water sources filtered from the fresh river water.
