PRIONS:They are small infectious protien particles.They are seen on the surface of the nerve cells of the central nervous system in those people who are affected with spongiform encephelopathies.They are much smaller than viruses and cannot be seen even through the electron microscope.Further,they do not have nucliec acid like other micro organism.

BACTERIA:They are atypical prokaryotic single celled organisms.They reproduce by asexual reproduction called binary fussion.They do not possess a distinct nucleus.They have a rigid cell wall made up of pepdidoglycon.Some bacteria are motile due to the presence of flegella.

FUNGI:They are eukaryoyic multi cellular organism.They lack chlorophyll and do not belong to the plant kingdom.Their cell contains a rapid cell wall made up of chitin.There are more than 50,000 fungi in the world and most of them are saprophutic.Only around 300 fungi are known human pathogens.

PROTOZOAN:They are single celled eukaryotic microbes belonging to the animal kingdom.Many are free living organism.However,some protozoan cause deadly human disease.They possess motile organ like flagella,cilia or pseudopodia.

HELMINTHS:They are multi cellular eukaryotes belonging to the animal kingdom.The adult forms are macroscopic.However,most of their infectious stages larva or eggs are microscopic.There are two main group of helminth.They are platyhelminth and nemathelminths.They have highly organized structure and some are even sexually differentiated.

HISTORY OF MICROBIOLOGY:

ROBERT HOOKE(1635-1703)was the first scientist to observe that all living organism are made up of a basic units called cell.He improvised the compound microscope and observed the slices of a cork tree and found that they are made of cells.Hooke was the first scientist to describe about a micro organism much easlier to antonie van leeuwenhoek.He mentioned about microscopic fungi in 1665 in his book nicro graphia.

ANTONIE VAN LEEUWENHOEK(1632-1723)was considered to be one of the first people to see and describe various micro organism along with robert hooke.He made improvisation in simple microscopic and observed many living micro organism that are not visible with the naked eye.

HUMAN PATHOGENIC MICRO ORGANISM:

Acellular/subcellular infectious particles→viruses and prions

Prokaryotic micro organism:Bacteria

Eukaryotic micro organism:Fungi and protozoa

Eukaryotic macroscopic organism:Helminth(parasitic worm)
