Hello guys now we are going to see a blog about water and electrolyte balance, let`s start my blog.very intresting and very very useful for health care provider please read full blog, thank you
Water is more important than any other single compound to life.
lt is involved in several body function.
lt serves as a vehicle for transport of solutes.
Water is closely associated with the regulation of body temperature.
Distribution of water in water and electrolytes:
An adult human contains about 60 percentage water (men percentagr, women percentage).
Exogenous water:
Ingestion of water is mainly controlled by a thirst centre located in the hypothalamus.
lncrease in the osmolality of plasma causes increased water intake by stimulating thirst centre.
Endogenous water:
Metabolic water produced within the body is the endogenous water.
This water (300350 ml/day) is derived from the oxidation of foodstuffs.
Urine
Urine output is about 12 L/day.
Hormonal regulation of urine production :
180 litres of water is filtered by the glomeruli into the renal tubules everyday.
Water excretion by the kidney is tightly controlled by vasopressin also known as antidiuretic hormone
of the posterior pituitary gland.
Diabetes insipidus is a disorder characterized
by the deficiency of anti diuretic which results in an
increased loss of water from the body.
Skin
Loss of water (450 ml/day) occurs through the body surface.
Unregulated process
Depends on the atmospheric temperature and humidity
Cause: Hot climate, Fever,
Lungs
During respiration/ some amount of water (about 400 ml/day) is lost through the expired air.
Hot climates and fever, the water loss through lungs is increase.
Feces
water entering the gastrointestinal tract is reabsorbed by the intestine.
150 ml/day is lost through feces in a healthy individual.
Fecal loss of water is tremendously increased in diarrhea.
Electrolyte
Electrolytes are ions capable of carrying an electric charge.
Dissociate in solution and exist as ions i.e. positively and negatively charged particle
Osmolality of plasma
Osmolality is generally measured by osmometer.
osmolality of plasma is in the range of 285295 milli moles / kg.
Aldosterone
Mineral ocorticoid produced by adrenal cortex.
Increase sodium reabsorption by the renal tubules at the expense of potassium and hydrogen ions.
Anti diuretic hormones
Increase plasma osmolality (mostly due to sodium) stimulates hypothalamus
Increase water reabsorption by renal tubule.
Renin-angiotensin
Aldosterone is regulated by the renin-angiotensin system.
Thats all about water and electrolytes. Thank you everyone and help me support me to publish my next blog.
