Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant was involved in a car accident on December 30, 2022, in the northern state of Uttarakhand. The car Pant was in collided with a divider and caught fire in the early hours of Friday, and he sustained multiple injuries to his head, back, and feet. Pant was hospitalized and underwent surgery, and he was reported to be stable and undergoing scans. According to a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Pant had “two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back”.

After 40 days, Pant shared a couple of photos on social media in which he can be seen walking on crutches, indicating that he is on the road to recovery. In his first public statement, Pant thanked everyone for their support and acknowledged the individuals who rescued him after the accident.

The sequence of events leading to the accident was that Pant was travelling alone and dozed off while driving his car. The Mercedes car hit the road divider on the highway and caught fire. Pant broke the windscreen to escape from the wreckage and was lying on a grassy patch between dividers on the highway when locals and a bus driver named Sushil Kumar helped him.

Pant is one of India's rising cricket stars and had recently been named his home state Uttarakhand's brand ambassador. The cricketing community, including former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting and India cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir, wished him a quick recovery.
