3.Helplessness
Helplessness is like feeling small,powerless and vulnerable.When we are unable to make an impact on something or someone.We feel helpless when we think that we have no control,or where we feel out of control.Due to lack of control we find some situation to be impossible to avoid.
Feeling of helplessness can also be because of grief,stress,isolation and some mental illness.Sometimes there are situation which can be controlled but due to constantly unable to make situation better we take it for granted that we can't make things happen or work.
We all know that we have tried to do something or change something for a long time but when we are unable to to do that thing we think that it will never happen and we give up trying it.
Example:When a man/women thinks he/she is fat and are trying to lose weight by trying different dietary ,exercise and lifestyle changes.When we are unable to lose weight after constantly trying it starts to make us believe that it will never happen.
Like shame ,helplessness also generates fears response and sometimes arousal in the body so that a person will be able to deal with any difficult Situation or unavoidable circumstances.
Sometimes feeling helplessness can also have positive effects like it motivates us, to make change. To able to change the situation and can take control over situation.This also gives us opportunity to build our self-esteem, confidence and can also improve our problem-solving skills.
The helplessness can also be learned like when people feel like that they have no control over any situation or what happens then they tend to assumed that itβs not possible then they give up and accept it as their fate.Learned helplessness is also observed when a person is repeatedly failing beyond their control.
The feeling of helplessness with time affects our mental health and stability.When one is exposed to more period of feeling helpless this state lasts more and can become damaging to one's self.Due to this helplessness which also similar to depressed state one become accustomed to the pain because of feeling helpless and then they no longer have motivation to act or do something to change it.
