Hello everyone,
First of all, thank you for showing your support on my previous blogs. It keeps me motivated to share more.
As we know that our physiology is maintained by several factors like genetics, environment etc. Our body itself has inbuilt mechanism to maintain the homeostasis (the process of keeping the body environment constant). The endocrine glands produce hormones that act as chemical messengers for the organs and tissues to do some specific activities. When they do not work efficiently, it can cause hormonal imbalance in the body. This imbalance can adversely affect our metabolism and other functions of the body.
Many of us have heard about the weight issues that people are facing due to the disfunctioning of the thyroid gland. Some people gain weight while some loss weight. Besides weight issues, this gland affect our functions also. In this article, we are going to discuss about the thyroid gland. How does it work and affect us.
The thyroid gland is located in the neck and mainly produce the hormone thyroxine. It is responsible for a number of biological functions out of which the most important is the regulation of metabolism. It is produced in low quantity, it is called hypothyroidism. Excessive secretion of thyroxin is known as hyperthyroidism. The problem of hypothyroidism is becoming common now. As I mentioned earlier, it affects our rate of metabolism so due to this-
.The person behaves in a lethargic manner.
.The person demonstrates little motivation to accomplish tasks. This shows that not only physiology but it also affects our psychology.
An undersecretion of thyroxine can result in weight gain also while hyperthyroidism affects the opposite way, i.e weight loss issues. It can cause hyperactivity, anxiety etc.
The thyroid gland also secretes thyrocalcitonin. This hormones is responsible for maintaining calcium level in the blood.
Summing Up-
This all looks complex but this is how the body functions. We should try to maintain its proper functioning by living a healthy lifestyle after all it is for our own benefit. We know about the theoretical part that what we need to do to have a healthy lifestyle but sometimes we are too lazy to practically apply it. Having a good lifestyle is a part of self love. I would like to end it on the note that prevention is always better than cure.
