Just an hour back I got an email. An email that in some shape and form I get everyday.
I have a decision to make. And 2 choices in front of me. Which one should I chose?
Sounds familiar, right?
Until, I read the choices.
IT IS so obvious to me which is the right choice to make.
In fact, the way the question has been posed, it is obvious that the writer too wants to make the same choice.
So then, why are they asking?
What are they scared of?
Here is what they are scared of.
They do not know if they will have the same choices again in life!
Here is the deal about humans.
We feel the most powerful, when we have choices in life.
Ever wondered why most of us like money? Because it gives us choices.
Ever wondered why we like when we have multiple college, job offers, even relationships to chose from?
We have choices.
WE LOVE CHOICES!
But if we love choices, it is obvious that we are scared of losing them.
There is a twist to this though.
We are scared FAR MORE, if we do not know how we got to these choices.
Letβs say you have a job offer (and a lucrative one at that) and admission to a top college for your MBA.
It is a good spot to be in, right? You have choices.
But most of us will dread being in this spot. You know why?
Because we do not know how exactly did we get here?
We do not know if we can replicate these same choices again in life.
If we take up the job, will I get admission again in the future, for my dream MBA?
If I take up the MBA, will I clear the interview of this company again?
Whenever we have lived our life in a way that seems like we landed where we have because of luck and not design, we will ALWAYS feel scared.
Because luck, is unpredictable. And we canβt trust that.
What does this mean?
In life, for you to feel powerful when you are sitting on choices, you have to have the path to create those choices AGAIN in life.
If you can, you will cherish choices coming your way.
If you canβt, you will dread making these decisions!
Luck may have played a very big part in our life.
But not knowing how it played a part, is leaving our life to chance!
