Expressing=impressing

Have you ever noticed a person or a lady in a party or a public gathering and feel like they are just trying to show-off, maybe their new dress, or an expensive watch, or whatever. You must have either envied them or ignored them. But give it a minute and think about it. Why do they choose to show-off, while they could have chosen an interaction with the people around? Why did they choose to impress rather expressing?

Well, do you really understand the two little but not-so-little words, impression and expression?

You must’ve heard of terms like first impression, good and bad impression and many more varieties of impression. Impression is something which helps you to conceal your true ‘self’ from others. And expression on the other hand shows what truly ‘you’ are. The thing is, creating an impression is easy at times, as compared to expressing. Also, an impression can be changed over time, unlike a permanent view formed about you due to your impulsive expressions.

An expression needs a great effort for the selection of words, thoughts, actions and behaviour. While all the above factors are also suggested for an impression, but an impression would even work without them. Since, even if it goes wrong, it can be mended in due course of time. An exception to this is the impressions formed during the job interviews, because there you’re being judged for the first and last time. You do not get attempts or chances to change your impression.

Everyone here around us has some flaws, including you. And that’s totally fine, since this is what, being a human means. Also being a human, no one wants his flaws to be displayed in the public. This is the primary reason why people prefer to impress rather than express. You are always judged by the people, irrespective of how good you try to be. People have always and will always find a flaw in you. You just need to find that little star, which when kept in the craters of your flaws, sparkle so bright that the crater is not seen.

As for my personal view, I feel that a person who can perfectly express himself can also impress anyone anytime. So what I suggest is, refrain from impressing people and try to express. Everything will take some time, but will eventually get to sort out.

Thank you!
