Travel :

          * You can drive 89 hours by train to Chennai Central or 30 minutes by train from Chennai Egmore to Nagapattinam.

          * There are also direct trains to Velankanni during the festival. 

          * Fly to Chennai and can take 89 hours by car to Velankanni.

Stay :

          * There are plenty of hotels, but they are all booked in advance during the festival time, to ensure you book your hotel atleast a year in advance.

          * If you are going at any other time of the year, you can also stay in the church pilgrim quarters, which can be booked at the Shrine office.

Food : 

          * With new hotels and restaurants coming up in the area, you can try all different types of Cuisines, but fish preparations are most in demand.

          * Try the Black Halwa and Cashew nut Halwa, especially from Nagai Uma Sweets, location at Nagapattinam Bazaar.

Shopping:

          * Don't forget to indulge in shopping articles made up of sea shells.

          * Velankanni is truly a pilgrim place and one should be able to put up with the dust and heat.

          * Private hotels are cool & comfortable.

          * All types of peoples visit this popular Shrine, so beware of your personal belongings.
