• The Constitution of India was framed by the constituent assembly, set up in 1946 under the provision of the cabinet mission plan. Under the plan the total strength of the constituent assembly was to be 389, out of which 296 we're to represent british india and 93 to represent princely states. Further out of 296 members, 292 we're to be elected by the provincial legislature and 4 members were to be drawn from cheif commissioner's provinces 

• The election of 296 members to the constituent assembly was held in July - August, 1946 . Out of 296 seats 210 we're reserved for general candidate, 78 seats were reserved for chief Commissioner's provinces. 

• After this election, the Muslim league refused to cooperate with the Congress. The political situation got worse and hindu muslim riots started. The Muslim league demanded a separate constituent assembly for muslims of india 

• On 3rd June, 1947 , Lord Mountbatten announced his intention to scrap the cabinet mission plan this culminated in passing of Indian Independence act, 1947 and partition of India into two dominion Nation i.e., India and Pakistan 

• The constituent assembly held its first meeting on December 9 , 1946, where Dr sachidanand Sinha the oldest member of the assembly was elected as the temporary president of India till the permanent president is elected. The first session was attended by 207 members including 9 women's

• On December 11,1946 , Dr Rajendra prasad and H.C mukherjee were elected as the president and the vice president of the constituent assembly. 

• On December 13 , 1946, jawaharlal Nehru moved the ‘objective resolution’ in the assembly. These were:

  1) To make India to be sovereign republic 

   2) To establish India as democratic union with an equal level of self governance for all the states 

   3) All the power and authorities of Central governance and state government to be derived from the people 

   4) To guarantee and security to all the citizens justice social and political equality of status, equality of opportunity and equality before law, freedom of thoughts expression, belief, faith, worship, vocation, association and action

  5) To maintain integrity of territory of the Republic and sovereign rights on land, sea and air accordingly as justice and law of civilised nation

  6) Adequate safeguards for minorities backwards classes and scheduled castes and schedule tribes and tribal areas 

  7) To contribute to the promotion of international peace and security 

• Constituent assembly adopted these resolution on January 22 , 1947
