The giant Panda, also known as the panda, is a bear species endemic to china. It features a sturdy black and white coat and a rounded body. The name “Giant Panda” is sometimes used to distinguish it from the a red musteloid.
Pandas mostly eat bamboo and between 26- 84 pounds per day. Pandas are lonely, but still communicate with each other through vocalization scent markings.
The survival rate of wild pandas is 60%. The cubs are extremely distressed and vulnerable at birth. They are born without fur and blindness. The limbs of a newborn panda are so weak that they can't stand it for three months. Six-month-old baby pandas rely entirely on their mother for warmth, milk and protection.
Giant Pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) are also known as panda bears, which are bear- like mammals that live in bamboo forests in the mountainous regions of central China.
Scientists don't know how long giant pandas live in the wild, but they certainly have a shorter lifespan than in a zoo. They estimate that wild pandas have a lifespan of about 15 to 20 years, and captive pandas have a lifespan of about 30 years. Chinese scientists report that zoo pandas live to be 35 years old.
Panda Food
Pandas like to eat about 20 species, including arrowhead bamboo, Black bamboo, and "water bamboo leaves. The pandas eat different varieties and bamboo pieces depending on the season. In spring and summer, they like to eat different kinds of sprouts. In the fall, they enjoy bamboo leaves. In winter, we mainly eat bamboo roots. Due to the very low nutritional value of bamboo, pandas need to eat 23-40 kg (50-90) daily to meet their energy needs.
Baby Panda Food
Baby pandas drink their mother's milk until they are six months old, after which they start eating bamboo. Pandas have very little milk. For example,captive panda pups are fed milk, milk powder, and milk consisting of a mixture of various vitamins.
Red Pandas Food
Red pandas, which are more like Raccoons than bears, are a completely different species than giant Pandas. They also like to eat arrowhead bamboo, but they also eat wild fruits, leaves, moss,birds and bird eggs, prey from other small animals and insects. They especially like to eat sweet foods such as apples and pumpkins. Red pandas are currently the only non- primate species that can taste sweeteners.
