How Unique Your Fingerprints Are ?

You all must be well aware of what fingerprints are. These are present on your finger tips, palm or on the whole hand and on the toes and soles of your feet as well in the form of ridge patterns. Depending on the ridge patterns the Fingerprints are of three types: Loops, whorls and the Arches, these classes can be further subdivided as well.

You always transfer your Fingerprints to everything you touch. Sometimes you are able to see your Fingerprints on the surfaces that you touched, depending on the object. But when you touch some object such as glass, wax material, clay or other related substance, you can easily observe the impression of your Fingerprints on them.

These ridge patterns start developing in the early embryonic stage of pregnancy and gets completed by about 6 months of pregnancy. These patterns are permanent on the human body, meaning they cannot be changed or erased over time unless a person has suffered an injury or other similar things. These are formed underneath the skin surface so these can not be destroyed by some superficial skin injuries but the deep injuries can harm your Fingerprints.

No two person in the world have the same Fingerprints which means these are unique to every individual person, even no two identical twins have the same fingerprints. Identical twins may fool everyone with their face, but they can't fool the fingerprint test. So far no evidence has been found that the fingerprints of two people in the world are the same.

Due to this uniqueness of fingerprints, this property of theirs can be used in criminal or civil investigations, and in other activities involving personal identification. You all have seen fingerprint lock in your mobile phones which can not open without your own fingerprint of the particular finger only. Fingerprint differs within the same hand of the same person as well. Which means every finger of your body will be unique in terms of ridge patterns. Due to their uniqueness, these can be used for the biometric purposes in offices, schools, exams and others.

The pattern of fingerprints is being decided by your genes but the genetic code do not completely decide the pattern type, environmental factors; like the movement and positive of foetus inside the womb, also play an important role in their developing/formation process.
