After reading 'Design' word, we usually think of colors, drawing, shapes, etc. Yeah, it is right but ‘Design’ is more than that. Lets understand ‘Design’ and how can we pursue it as our career.

What is Design?

In simple words, Design is a process of creating something from something. For example- You are told to make a recipe out of wheat flour. So you decided to make a cake. So will you make cake in circle shape? Some will say Yes! But my answer will be NO. We can explore different shapes! That is the Design. You Think- Imagine- Execute.

Specialization In Design-

• Industrial Design
• Communication Design
• Fashion Design

Degree-

• B. Des ( Bachelor of Design), M. Des (Master of Design)

Course Duration-

• 4 years (Full time)- B. Des
• 2 years (Full time)- M. Des

Course Fee -

• Around 4-5 lakh per year.

Entrance Exams-

• UCEED/ CEED (CEED is for those who are applying for Master Degree)
• NID
• NIFT

Note- Private Colleges have their own entrance exams.

Software used in Design-

• Photoshop
• illustrator
• InDesign
• After Effects

There are many Private Colleges and Government Colleges in India

Exam Pattern-

Due to pandemic, exam pattern had been changed.

Exam consist of three rounds. DAT Exam ( Consist of MCQs and Drawing), Portfolio Submission/ SOP (Statement of Purpose), Personal Interview (PI)

Salary Package-

For fresher, it is about 2-3 lakhs per annum and for experienced level is about 7-8 lakhs per annum.

Tips on Portfolio and SOP-

• Add your best 10 artwork related to the specialization you choose.
• Do not add dark background.
• Add your original artwork only.
• Categorized your artworks.
• Portfolio should be in PDF format.
• Do not add Videos in portfolio. (My suggestion).
• SOP (Statement of Purpose) write about your interest, academic achievements, little bit about you choosing design as a career.
• SOP should not be more than 200 words
• Closure of the SOP should be simple.

Tips on Personal Interview (PI) round-

• All the questions will be related to your Portfolio, so study your portfolio.
• Be yourself.
• Dress code should be casual.
• Relax and answer the questions.
• Due to this pandemic situation, Personal Interview (PI) round was held on Zoom, Google Meet platforms.
• Check your network bandwidth.
