This incident took place in Beijing, China, on the gloomy night of November 14, 1995. An elderly guy, or perhaps an elderly woman, was chatting with the only other person waiting for a bus at midnight: a calm young man. They both boarded the midnight bus 375, which was the final bus for Route 375 leaving from the Yuan-ming-huan bus terminal. The young man seated a few rows behind the elderly passenger, who chose a seat near the front of the bus. The driver and a female ticket collector were the only other passengers with them.
After some time, the bus's driver noticed two shadowy figures waving at it from the side of the road. When the doors opened, he paused, and three guys entered—two men who were holding up a third man by the shoulders while supporting him between them. The man standing in the middle appeared untidy and bowed his head so that no one could see his face. Inside the bus, there was a depressingly peaceful environment.
Shortly after that, the old man picked a fight with the young man under some silly pretense of stealing his wallet. The altercation escalated, and the bus driver forced them both off the bus. When they got off and the bus zoomed away, the old man was no longer angry. He told the young man that he had saved their lives. "Those three new passengers did not have feet. They were floating; they were not living people," he said.
After that, they went to the nearest police station to report this event, but nobody believed them. The very next day, the bus company issued a statement, "Last night, the final bus for Route 375 vanished, along with the driver and ticket lady." The police immediately chased down the old man and the young man, who were initially assumed to be mentally ill when they tried to report the incident earlier. They were both interviewed on the news.
The missing bus was found on the third day in a water reservoir about 100 kilometres from its intended destination, Xiang-shan, or the so-called Fragrant Hills. Three gravely dismembered bodies were found inside the bus. These questions were raised by this discovery:
- After a full day of journey, the bus did not have enough fuel to continue travelling that far.
The discovery that the petrol tank was filled with fresh blood instead of petrol.
- The fact that the corpses found were too decomposed for just 48 hours; even if it was summer, the process of decomposition would not be this quick. An autopsy confirmed that there has been no intentional meddling with the bodies.
- The fact that, even after the police went through all the security cameras set up around the various entrances to the reservoir, they found nothng out of ordinary.
To this day, it remains an unsolved mystery.
