Own Your Failures Just Like Your Success

We all love stories dont we?

Well I am going to narrate you one today!

The protagonist is Me.. haha its my story after all

Last year my school alumni organised a reunion in our school. By that time my  startup Waste Wheel a waste management company has got registered. With the urge to live  a few moments in our classrooms which still holds the illusions of us sitting and taking classes, made me nostalgic, even before I stepped inside the campus.

Dressed up nicely, off I went to relive my memories again. As soon as I entered my school, I felt like I have entered into a different world altogether. It has changed a lot. The basket ball court has got a new shade! we used to complain about it a lot. It used to be difficult playing under the hot sun. Well the school authorites gave way to our pleadings only after we left school( Conspiracy, Let me tell you).

The first thing I did after I entered the campus was to go and meet my Principal. I was not very fond of him but  after I left school he gave me an oppurtunity to get my first order from the school( I used to work in a T-shirt manufacturing and printing company). Later I met my lovely teachers who never used to leave an oppurtunity to let a day go without scolding. Met my juniors as well but was a bit upset to find out that no one from my batch made it to the reunion. Life stuck everyone it seems.

The event started of with lighting up the diya and as I was about to enjoy what was about to come as an audience. The student in charge came up to me and said.

Junior: Uchhwash Da you need to go to the podium and say a few words.

Me: Sure. Thank you.But may I know why me?

Juniour: Why not you. You the only senior here among the X students who took out time and made this event a succesful one!

Okay! first of all that is too much of talking. How can I be solely responsible for the event's success? Well I just wanted to be an audience.

By the way let me tell you. I started making videos by that time so I wasnt scared but you know I have never talked over using a microphone and I didnt know how would I react as soon as I hear my own voice. Nevertheless I prepared a speech in my mind and went off to the podium as soon as I got my call.

“Hello everyone. Good evening to Father( principal ) and all my dear teachers who are responsible for every single push we needed to be where we are right now and also to keep moving ahead……." Well it was a good start but me hearing my own voice was distracting me a lot and I lost  track of what I thought I would be saying. For a whole minute I stood still with nothing coming out of me, except CO2.

I could see the stare I was getting from every corner of the area. It made me more nervous. Eventually I had to end my silence speech with “ Thank you, That's all I had to say”. I dont know why on earth I had to say that even. The defeated hero was going back to his seat without a single clap from the audience.

There was a huge urge to run away. Who is coming to know that I left. How does it even matter to anyone. But that day something stopped me from even moving an inch away from my seat. I remember telling myself "you may leave now without anyone noticing you, but can you leave without you noticing yourself? Why can't you just own your failures. If it would have been the other way round, would you run away?

We have been given a very negative outlook towards failures. Where on the other hand it is failures which has taught us our best lessons and keep teaching us. If there are no learnings there is no growth and without failures how will you ever feel the real essence of success. Why cant we own our failures just like the way we own our success?

That day I stayed back, came forward to talk to everyone as if nothing has happned. Had a great tour reliving my memories, one of the important reasons why I came to school and Yes, leaving the school campus with a confident smile on my face and lots of courage in my heart.

Thank you for reading…..
