Everyone has one or two bad habits. If you have then this content is for you. But If you are not a slave of bad habits, then there might be a chance that you want to make new good habits, for example - “waking up early”.

So Atomic Habits by James Clear. Tells us the new path for

a. Breaking the bad habits

b. Forming new habits.

Let's Start.

Your first step is to - Find 1% improvement in every work you do. Improve 1% daily. For example - If you read 1 page yesterday and improve 1% and read the second page today or re-read the first page.

The second step is to focus on the SYSTEM

system = Instead of focusing on goal , focus on the method that you are trying. For example - "If you want to build a business of million dollars. Then the company is the goal and your system is - Your marketing, management, leadership, knowledge, routine, etc.

Science of how habits work:

  1. Cue = It triggers your brain to inititate a behavior. It is a bit of information that predicts a reward. Example - Junk food gives the prediction of the taste that is reward.
  2. Cravings = Cravings are the second step, They are the motivational force behind every habit. You do not crave smoking a cigarette, you crave the feeling of relief it provides.
  3. Response = It is the actual habit that you perform.
  4. Reward = These are the end goal of every habit.

Habits are generally a solution to a problem. For example - "If you are feeling overwhelmed after work (This is the cue) now you have a craving for relief , So you start checking out social media (this is your response) and your reward is - your craving is satisfied. Now after repetition this act becomes your habit.

To create a good habit.

  1. Make cue obvious
  2. Make craving attractive
  3. Make response easy
  4. Make reward satisfying.

for example - If you want to start exercise then.

  1. Make your outfit visible and easily accessible.
  2. Have a clear purpose
  3. Start with easy exercises
  4. Reward yourself with favorite proteinshake.

To break bad habits.

  1. Make cue invisible
  2. Make craving unattractive
  3. Make response difficult
  4. Make reward unsatisfying.

If you want to break the habit of smoking.

  1. Chose the road , path which has less no of shops and makes cigarette unaccessible
  2. Hate the feeling of nicotine
  3. Put roadblocks before access to cigarettes.
  4. Punish yourself

Thankyou

Love you all
