Ramchandra series - Scion of Ikshvaku

Scion of Ikshvaku is the first book of Ramachandra series written by Amish Tripathi.

Amish Tripathi is the director of the Nehru Centre in London and an author. He is famous for his books Shiva triology books which are The immortals of meluha, The secret ofof Nagas, The oath of vayuputras. Ram Chandra Series (Scion of IkshvakuSita: Warrior of MithilaRaavan: Enemy of Aryavarta) and Legend of Suheldev: The King Who Saved India. The Shiva Trilogy was the fastest-selling book series in Indian publishing history, followed by the Ram Chandra series which was the second fastest selling book series in Indian publishing history.

Scion of Ikshvaku was released on 22 June 2015. It is based on Ram, the legendary Indian king regarded as an incarnation of Vishnu. However the second book of series Sita: the worrior of mithila also mentions Sita as an incarnation of Vishnu.

Amish always tries regenerating and explaining the stories from mythology of India. This book is nothing different. Book is based on several versions of the Ramayan, changed with historical theories, events and imagination. The story explains the journey of Ram, the son of Dashrath and the founder of Ram Rajya, the perfect empire. It explains his struggles for building Ram Rajya , his love for Sita and the events in his life as as he set about creating this perfect empire.

All of Amish's books have philosophy, with the story to convey it. The explaination in the book are usually derived from his understanding of Indian scriptures and practical life experiences.

Some people might think of his books as its like making fun of originality, skills, creativity, literature. That he is creating mockery of old indian scriptures and playing with feelings of Indian devotees. But as you think more about it, the interpretation of Amish about all the facts makes a little sense. Amish's point of view is also believable and practical. The books clearly creates a parallel Ramayana and many interpretations of known beliefs are intriguing.

All in all this is a good read and interesting book. The fast paced narration will keep you occupied for hours. The twisted and the interesting characters sets a strong background for the remaining books. The book is a pure enjoyment and will leave you refreshed and wanting.

As far as I am concerned, I liked the book, its worth your time and also gives you a new point of view to look at the things differently.

I will give 4.5/5 ratings for this book.

Happy reading...
