Women And Pain [The Untold Story]

'Pain??? No… You need to suffer! Tolerate. Because you are a Woman."

“If you cannot tolerate this, How will you handle childbirth? There's more to come, so you better shut up and toughen up”.

Girls when young have heard these from at least one person starting from childhood. It mostly starts at menarche. Mothers do acknowledge that there will be some cramps, but when it increases in intensity, then the girl is supposed to shut up and tolerate them.

No, it doesn't end there. This keeps repeating to her many times and finally, the girl stops talking about it and tolerates everything in silence. She also has it in her mind that talking about her pains or problems is a shame in this society.

Even during pregnancy, a mother's body undergoes so much. Starting from losing weight in the first trimester to gaining weight in the second and third trimesters, the stretch marks and the irritation that follows, the hormone changes to cravings and mood swings. How many are comfortable enough to share their discomforts?

During childbirth starting from vaginal examinations to labor pain! You are just supposed to tolerate it all and there's zero support and empathy. Many people say that these are normal and it is not the first time women are giving birth. Yes, it is true. Women are ready to take it all, all they need is someone by their side, who understands what she is going through, to talk to and not people who ask her to tolerate everything just because that is how it is supposed to be. It is high time that people understand the importance of being emotionally and physically present.

Tolerating pain, hiding it, not speaking about it and self-medication leads to other troubles such as endometriosis, emotional weakness, and a lot more, without the right knowledge about breastfeeding and the pain they are going through.

Some people also say that pain tolerance is an indicator of being a good woman or a good mother. What a horrible Myth!

A mother is not someone who is inbound to suffer everything in silence or talk about her difficulties, discomforts, trauma, or pain.

To all women out there---

Each of us has a different pain tolerance, but there is a threshold we all have. At that threshold, tell the world that you are in pain. There is nothing to be ashamed of or to be embarrassed. Tell the ones who try to shut you up to have empathy. The level of pain you can tolerate has nothing to do with the kind of woman/mother you are.

More Power to all Women out there !!!!!
