Hi All, hope you guys are doing good. First of all this post was planned for yesterday, but due to a lot of commitments, could not make it. Yes, yesterday was the 49th birthday of the legend. Many people might have not known about the greatness of this man. Many people might have thought that, they would have liked to have a player like Rahul Dravid in their team. Many players said that he was born in a wrong era, where his performances were overshadowed by other members in the team.
Yet, he is one of the few cricketers in the world to have crossed 10000 runs in both ODI format and test format. There were a lot of people who might have won the test matches for their team, but Rahul is one of them, who had saved from losing more test matches and saved team from humiliations by taking the team to a decent score, even they lose the match in the ODI format. Many players set themselves aside after earning name and fame. But, Rahul is one among the few players, who wanted to share his knowledge to the budding cricketers and help to groom themselves into great players.
He did not directly jump into coaching for the mainstream cricket team. He started with coaching the franchise cricket team from IPL and then he moved on the U-19 team and now he is the coach of Indian Cricket team. He was criticised many times for scoring slowly, but he always gives more importance to save the test matches, now in tougher conditions, even the mordern day players with higher strike rates are struggling to score at the strike rate of Rahul in away conditions. He might not have been lucky enough to be part of world cup winning team or IPL team.
But, he is always good enough to groom youngsters and make them win the world cup. It is not easy to coach a young side and led them to victory in u-19 worldcup. He had done that with passion and dedication and gave all the credits to the youngsters who performed well to achieve success in that tournament. We might have seen the serious side of Rahul for years, but he is sarcastic at times. He had a lot of thug life moments in his cricketing career. It is really hard to find such a selfless player. He is the greatest team player I have known, if team needs him to open he will do, if they need him to keep wickets, he will do, if team needs him to bowl, he will bowl. If team needs him to retire, he did it and finally, the team needs him to coach he did the same.
Once more belated birthday wishes to the legend……
