Set an intimidating total of 227, RCB appeared to be on track until the fast departures of Glenn Maxwell (76 off 36 balls) and skipper Faf du Plessis (62 off 33 balls). The pair contributed 126 runs for the third wicket to boost RCB's chances of victory.

CSK had previously scored 226 for six after being asked to bat first. Opener Devon Conway hit 83 off 45 deliveries and shared a 74-run second-wicket stand with Ajinkya Rahane (37 off 20 balls).

CSK won the game, but both teams have lot to think about. Once against, the RCB's bowling was subpar. CSK, on the other side, has been let down by their fielding despite creating adequate opportunities. RCB's batsmen have been the typical suspects. Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Dinesh Karthik, with a cameo towards the end, came close. Aside from them, no one else raised their hands to contribute. MS Dhoni, too, will go back to the drawing board to examine his team's bowling and fielding performance. Having said that, it's been a fantastic display of punching and counter-punching from two IPL heavyweights. The match has provided hours of entertainment for the fans.
